Insomnia

When darkness falls within my room
and dread foreshadows thoughts of doom
When night descends and chills so deep
I cannot sleep,

Then all the monsters do appear
and claw and clash and laugh and leer
And through the night my company keep

With gleeful grins they stare at me
with ragged claws they tear at me
And more through my closed window seep

to grit my teeth and shut my eye
I always feel how they creep

to morbid monsters and their kind
They haunt my hours with fear to reap
